Animal Farms?
NO!!
Animal   Concentration   Camps!

Look at the "innocent" picture below
You have probably seen this type of building before and wondered what's inside. Is it perhaps a textile mill? Or grain? There is not often any indication of what is happening inside these sad places where billions of animals suffer every day.
Go on....be brave, click on the picture below and find out what's really happening inside these places!
There are no horrible images which could give you sleepless nights but the creatures we talk about have many of those.

To the right we have some links which give information on the laws and enforcement of animal welfare in New Zealand. The 1999 law slightly improved the situation for our fellow creatures but not by nearly enough. However, it did at least slightly change the focus from preventing cruelty to ensuring animal welfare.
BUT, is it good enough that:
• we poison animals in laboratories until they die, to see how "safe" drugs are.
• we condone "research" which injures them to see how bad their pain is and thus make drugs to relieve our own pain.
• we use them to make vaccines in a way which makes their lives and deaths miserable.
• we sometimes transport them in cruel conditions.
• we allow live exports where many die on the journey or arrive in countries which have NO empathy for fellow creatures and treat them accordingly.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Is it right to export live fellow creatures to such countries where cruelty is common-place? Isn't it contravening our own laws to do so?
If animals could speak our language, what would they say to us?
Make your statement! Take your stand!
These creatures will go on suffering until there is a public outcry :

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POLL HAS BEEN SKEWED BY ONE PERSON WHO HAS VOTED 'NO' 48 TIMES. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE IN TRUE ANIMAL WELFARE.

Anti Vivisection Society Deliberately causing pain and disease in other creatures is despicable.

Info from US on how we kill farm animals and ritual slaughter (this is distressing. Pleeeeeeease PROTEST about ritual slaughter and do NOT buy the products!! Do NOT buy anything with halal products in them. This includes many yoghurts, ALL New Zealand sour cream (you can no longer eat sour cream if you are vegetarian in NZ, as it has halal gelatine - an animal product - in it ) and many other products. Check the labels before you buy.)

AFFCO, a North Island slaughter company. We notice that there is no mention of actual slaughter practices. Halal slaughtering is OBSCENE and horrible! Don't let fancy language confuse you. Minimum animal welfare standards in New Zealand are not high standard.

Dairy cow tail-docking A totally unnecessary and mutilating procedure.

Towards True Animal Welfare

BC (USA) Farm Animal Programme. This is what we should be doing.

NZ Green's Party policy on Animal Welfare. The Green's Party is the best NZ party re animal welfare. Cannabis and some other issues are debatable but to have this party as part of the NZ govt (it has 8 seats in govt currently - July, 2002) means that there is pressure to change our treatment of animals which is currently cruel and, frankly, ignorant and uncaring of animal society - particularly those which are eaten by humans.
